She has been a leader in two of her passions, a dance ensemble and after-school art programs within the school communities she has worked. Mrs. Young has said, “Children love to see you in your own element. Doing things you love and are passionate about in front of your students inspires them to discover and tap into their own passions. It challenges them to go out and explore their world in a whole new way. Best of all, this has an amazing affect on them in the classroom.” |
My Teaching Philosophy |
Mrs. Young believes that children must have as many opportunities as possible to be creative and imaginative because ultimately this is one of the catalysts to building 21st Century leaders and thinkers. Her teaching philosophy is built around three core educational theories: cooperative, project-based, and problem-based learning. Giving students the chance to take hold of their own understandings in a variety of ways allows them to explore answers through multiple avenues. Mrs. Young believes her students are better learners and thinkers because they have been given autonomy to how they are going to “figure it out,” choice in what it is they want to study, opportunities to fail and try again, and support given through the coaching/mentoring approach. It is vital to give students every opportunity to think critically and “outside of the box” in order to ultimately solve real world problems.
Mrs. Young says her educational style and goals are best described by the illustrious rhyme of Dr. Seuss’, Oh the Places You’ll Go! These 4 quotes summarizes it so well. |
